For far too many young carers, their caring responsibilities have a serious effect on their education. Time missed from lessons, a reduced ability to connect with other students, and a lack of understanding from teachers leads to unfair penalties and impacted performances in school - a crucial period that shapes any child’s future. As a result, nearly half of young carers aged 18–25 are not in education, employment or training.
Without better identification and support in schools, young carers risk being left behind - despite their potential and resilience. We believe that all young people deserve the same chance at future success. That’s where Level Up comes in.
By training teachers and staff and co-creating bespoke policies to improve standards of inclusion, we give schools the confidence to recognise and properly support young carers in their classrooms. We also bring awareness to pupils by delivering educational assemblies and PSHE lessons, breaking down stigma and reducing the isolation that so many young carers face.
With its whole-school approach, Level Up creates a lasting cultural shift by embedding recognition, support and understanding at every stage of a young carer’s educational journey.

Principal, Burton Primary School
Since beginning the project, the quality of the provision the young carers receive has improved significantly. Senior leaders and the pastoral team have received high quality training from MYTIME on the issues facing young carers in schools and the most effective strategies to support them. As a result, pastoral staff have identified several students as young carers who were previously unknown to them. The impact this programme has had on our young carers is incredible and we look forward to continuing to work with MYTIME to ensure that the students at our school receive all the support and provision they need to go on and live happy and successful lives."
