STRATEGY
& VALUES

IN A FAIR WORLD, CHARITIES LIKE MYTIME SHOULD NOT EXIST. HOWEVER, THE WORLD IS NOT FAIR FOR YOUNG CARERS.

CHAMPIONING YOUNG CARERS IS WHAT WE DO; THIS IS HOW WE DO IT.

At MYTIME Young Carers, we believe no child’s destiny should be defined by their beginning. That’s why we fight for the rights of young carers. Our vision is a world where young carers are recognised and supported by society, and their lifelong opportunities are limitless.

OUR VALUES

TENACITY

Working relentlessly to elevate young carers across all levels of society

COMPASSION

Operating from kindness and genuine care for others, always

ACCOUNTABILITY

Owning our duty to bring change, as well as our impact, successes, and failures alike

AUTHENTICITY

Representing young carers' authentic voices and staying true to them in everything we do

OUR STRATEGY TAKES A 360° APPROACH

Our ultimate goal is simple: to eradicate the postcode lottery of support and ensure every young carer in the UK has equal access to opportunities to succeed.

We have a number of strategic goals designed to bring us closer to this, including raising awareness of the needs of young carers and delivering our interventions and programmes. However, at MYTIME, we recognise that the conditions that create young carers stem from broader issues that run far deeper than individual circumstance. Each young carer doesn’t represent a one-off occurrence, but rather a greater need for care across our whole society. This issue is deeply tied to wider causes in our systems and culture. As such, our strategy can be summed up best as a 360° approach to the solution.

What makes MYTIME special is that we take a holistic approach, which can be visualised best in the Bronfenbrenner diagram of child needs.

We work across all areas from top to bottom; from the micro – to the macro. We don’t just offer support for the symptoms of being a young carer, we tackle the bigger problems at play. MYTIME combines direct interventions with ongoing research, high-profile systemic advocacy, proud awareness-raising, and vital national collaboration.

We’re here to change the world and won’t rest until we’ve formed a fairer one.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Over the next three years, we’re focused on two key priorities:

1

Raise awareness at all levels of society for young carers; their lived experiences and the challenges they face

2

Create and deliver interventions and provisions through our programmes to meet young carers' needs

3

Collect and report on data to create an evidence base for the scale of young carers' realities and the interventions needed

4

Collaborate with organisations in our Equity for Young Carers Project, and lobby for legislative changes

5

Raising the funds needed to deliver this change at scale. This is why we ask you to give support as we change the world for young carers.

Pretty simple. Together, these steps will build a future where every young carer has the recognition and support they deserve.

Want to help us achieve this? We would love to hear from you. There are many ways you can help us make a difference.
