MYTIME’s Youth Action & Advisory Board (YAAB), both founded and chaired by young carers, is a powerful platform for youth voice and lived experience. Representing one of the UK’s most under-recognised groups, YAAB ensures young carers’ perspectives are heard, respected, and actually acted upon.
Young carers have been overlooked for far too long. Most organisations, institutions, and communities simply don’t see them, or reduce inclusivity efforts to a “tick-box exercise.”
This leaves a huge gap between assumptions about young carers and their reality - and an even bigger gap between intent and impact.
YAAB changes this. With eight dedicated young carer board members as well as a young carer chairperson, YAAB was united to advise and consult with businesses, policymakers, schools, and community groups.
They ensure decisions on young carers and inclusivity are shaped by real voices, not just guesswork.
Led by chairperson Jemima Jennings, the board continues to prove that there is no limit to what young carers can achieve when given a platform.
Real voices, real impact. From businesses to schools, from government to media, organisations are turning to YAAB for advice, consultation, and authentic insight. The input of young carers helps create brands, policies, and initiatives that are genuinely welcoming to young carers - and by extension - future generations.
If you’re developing programmes, policies, or campaigns, YAAB can ensure they reflect real experience and create meaningful change. Don’t just talk about inclusivity — practice it by inviting young carers to the table.
